The best road in Moldova, as its users believe, the Sarateni-Soroca road rehabilitated with the U.S. Government’s Compact support was inaugurated.
The rehabilitation of this road cost about 100 million USD and included reconstruction of the 93 km segment that starts at the Sarateni junction and ends at the Drochia junction (R7 road), rehabilitation of a 1.8 km segment of the national road R14 Balti-Sarateni-M2 and a 1.2 km road segment of the local road to the town of Soroca, as well as of the 0.750 km access road to the fire station in the Soroca rayon.
The rehabilitation lasted 2 years and included renovation of seven bridges and construction of other seven bridges, including the Sarateni grade separation and the railway bridge near the town of Ghindesti. Moreover, about 22 km of sidewalks were built in the villages along the road, about 20 km of road was illuminated, and about 12 km of iron guardrails and 2113 road signs were installed, along with more than 9000 reflective items at dangerous points.
Additionally to the rehabilitated road segment, the Compact reconstructed about 10 km of local roads to schools, village halls, health centers and other social facilities in 20 communities along the road.
According to the estimates, the modern road will increase road safety and traffic to the north of the country and encourage investments in the country’s economy.
